Awake & Dreaming Releases "Antidote" — A Seductive Descent into Dark Art-Rock
The Waterloo alt-rock band's new single is a darker tone from debut album Inevitable, with production by 9× Juno Award winner Jay Dufour and mastering by João Carvalho (Rush, Tragically Hip)
"Maybe you're the antidote to all of this poison inside of me."
— Equal parts plea and confession — the line that names the song
Waterloo, ON — What happens when desire becomes indistinguishable from danger? Awake & Dreaming answers with "Antidote," a dark, seductive new single and the first track released from their debut album Inevitable, due summer 2026. Available June 12 on all platforms.
The song opens inside a spider's web - delicate piano and electronics weaving an intimate trap before the first chorus strips everything bare at 1:06: synth, drums, and voice only. Nothing to hide behind. The second chorus at 2:23 adds crushing guitar distortion, and by the climax at 3:08, the full force arrives - "I'm still breathing" with dramatic vocals over walls of sound, the tension between seduction and threat unleashed in a single cathartic moment.
The imagery is darkly sensual: webs, silver threads, prying eyes, two predators circling each other. "Are you a predator too? Hunting me hunting you." The central question - maybe you're the antidote to all of this poison inside of me - is both surrender and hope, a confession that craving someone completely might be the only cure, even when you can't tell if they're the medicine or more of the disease.
"Antidote" was mixed by Jay Dufour, a 9-time Juno Award winner with 18 Billboard #1 singles, whose credits include July Talk, Finger Eleven, and Billy Talent. Mastering was handled by João Carvalho, the legendary engineer behind records by Rush, The Tragically Hip, Alexisonfire, and Death From Above 1979. Dufour is mixing the band's entire debut album - a commitment to world-class production across every track.
This is the third Awake & Dreaming single to feature the Dufour/Carvalho production team, following "I U Me" (January 2026) and "Something to Believe In" (March 2026). Where those tracks channeled isolation and resilience, "Antidote" moves into new territory: darker, more intimate, and unafraid of the uncomfortable space between vulnerability and desire. It signals a band evolving - not abandoning what made them compelling, but pushing further into the tension that defines their identity.

About Awake & Dreaming
Awake & Dreaming is a four-piece alt-rock band from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Sasha Kristoff (vocals/keyboard), Stefan Schneider (guitar), Phil Lee (bass), and Ryan Dugal (drums) create music that builds from delicate piano into arena-scale walls of guitar—quiet moments that feel vulnerable, screams that feel earned. Their sound pairs dystopian urgency with blockbuster spectacle and glam-rock theatrics.
"Antidote" is the third single from their debut album Inevitable, due summer 2026, with a fall album release tour planned across Ontario and beyond (September–October). UK's AnalogueTrash has called their work "flawlessly future-proof"; Foxfire Magazine wrote they're "making moments people will want to go back to." Rockermag praised their "ability to craft music that is both thoughtful and immediately impactful" and called Something To Believe In "a triumph of indie rock storytelling." SoundVille wrote that I U Me "redefines the alt-rock genre." LoudTO covered their El Mocambo set opening for Rough Trade, writing they brought "alt-rock tunes filled with rebellion and hope." Twelve press reviews and a Spill Magazine premiere from eleven outlets across five countries.
Notable Performances: Rough Trade with Carole Pope at El Mocambo (Toronto) + two more co-bills • Canadian National Exhibition (Toronto, twice) • The Delancey (NYC) • Horseshoe Tavern (Toronto)
